So I'm sitting here with my finger on the trigger, just about to order a Rocktron Velocity 300 power amp and a couple of 1x12"'s for my W/D/W rig.

Being on a budget I can't really afford any more expensive than these, but if anyone have tried them, I'd love some feedback.

1x12" closed back, seems decently made, no particle board or anything.
"Custom" 70W Eminence speaker.

It's pretty ugly, but that's not a concern for me.
I will replace the speakers eventually, I have a early 90's Recto cab with some nice and broken in Vintage 30's I can use the speakers from, when I can find a good 2x12".

Unless someone have tried them and says they're utter crap, I'll order soon...

You could do a lot worse. Ply cab, and the dimensions are right.

Blackheart 1X12 is similarly constructed/priced, but has the parallel out optionality. Looks good debadged, too.

Yeah I looked at the Blackhearts, but went with the Jet Citys, as they're a bit larger.

W/D/W, here I come! :)

Hi Blix,
I am in the same position..wondering whats the best 1x12 speaker cab. The Jet City cabs are priced right..but how do they sound with a good amp?
I tried them at a store with a Jet City head and they didnt sound good to me. I tend to use boutique amps (Randall MTS series).
I was wondering how you are doing..do you like the cabs (the Jet City) or did you buy something else?

Ive had my JCA 20 head and matching cab for about a month. The stock Eminence speaker is okay and actually mates better in my open back Pine 1x12. That setup has a nice woody tone and the speaker is starting to break in nicely.

I put a Reaper 55hz in the Jet City cab and its my favorite right now. The cab has a resonant feel to it. Not as focused as Baltic Birch, not as tubby as Pine.
A good balance.

Since retubing my Special 6 with an EL 34 and a nice old Mullard 12ax7 it sounds incredible through the JC cab.

I have a WGS Green Beret coming next. I'll give a report.

I did buy two of them indeed. Very well built cabs for the price, but the speaker isn't much to write of, which was expected at that price point.
I have an old greenback I put in one of the to a/b them, and the difference was monstrous. The Eminence is kinda muddy and harsh at the same time, the greenback is smooth and creamy, yet clear and defined, just awesome.

But 25w greenbacks would life a dangerous life in a 1x12", so I have two EV12L's in the mail for the cabs, as they will be wet cabs in the full rig, and also used standalone with a 100w head when needed. I think that will work out pretty nice. :)

A little update, got the EV12L's yesterday, and installed them quickly. Man those are some beasts, no risk of overtightening those massive frames!

As for the sound, even right out of the box, it was love at first note, big, full and tight bass, a very even tonal balance overall, love how they kinda seems to open up in the treble when you dig in with the pick on single notes without ever getting thin.

Very, very pleased.

The 120W Eminence Red, White and Blues is another good choice for a replacement speaker, at a 1/3 of the cost of the EV12L. FWIW Glaswerks uses them in some of their cabs (they make one of the best Dumble inspired amps around). I mention that because the EV12L is usually the speaker of choice for Dumble amps.

I've bought two of them so far, one for a combo amp and one for an ext speaker cab. Top notch sound for $80 from MF with free shipping. (I really like some of the Guitar Warehouse speakers, too, but the shipping charges kill me. I wish that we could buy them at MF with free shipping!)
